Village Class Babies:

Babies in this multi-age class are changing more rapidly than at any other time in their development. Therefore, each activity presents features and choices for lap babies, crawling babies, and walking babies, each participating at his own level. The crawling baby may be walking ay the end of the course, and lap baby may be crawling. Diversity is expected and welcomed. There is never the need to ask: "am I doing it right?" Kindermusik Village teaches "your baby's way is the right way." Watch and take note. Then enjoy exchanging ideas and observations with other parents.

Kindermusik Village Babies

Kindermusik Village babies are in a "receptive" mode of development, in preparation for movement towards a more expressive stage of development. Kindermusik Village lessons acknowledge this by providing a wide array of sounds, images, tactile and movement activities for Baby to experience. Parents and caregives are encouraged to enhance every activity by imagining yet another way to position Baby to view his/her world, another sound or movement to try, and are invited to observe and ntoice Baby's preferences, antics, and responses.

Listening

Listening:
Sounds are part of Baby's environment. Focused listening to one sound will help Baby start to learn to compare the differences between sounds and the source by which they are produced.

Home Activity:

Lap Baby: Select a gently sound made by a quiet jingle, rattle or shaker. Notice baby's facial and body reaction to the sound. give baby the opportunity to make the osund by shaking, holding or touching the object.

Crawler and Walker: Select a sound made by a common object that is familiar to baby as a shaker, rattle, drum or jungle. You mayeven want to make or create a ne wound by using common house hold items. Explore and play with the sound object together.

Crawling which is a cross-lateral movement, activates development of the corpus callosum, the nerve pathways between the two hemispheres of the cerebrum in the brain. Research shows that children who miss the vitally important crawling stage may exhibit learning difficulties later on.

Sign and Sing Classes Starting Soon!

Kindermusik Sign and Sing Classes Starting Soon!

Play, Sign, and Sing
Using everyday items in engaging small and large group activities, we'll sing songs and practice signs as we say the words, play with toys, and help children learn both the spoken word and sign.

Expert Advice
Parents will learn to spot their children's most "teachable moments" and the sign language teaching methods of the experts then recognize and respond to their children's versions of signs.

Communication through Sign Language
When a child is asking for a ball, make the sign for it and say the word. Child then associates the word with the object: child holds the ball, hears parent say the word, and then sees the sign.

Location
Sunnyside Methodist Church, 3520 SE Yamhill, Portland

When

Object Permanence

When Baby begins to search and retrieves a hidden object, this indicates that Baby remembers that the object contined to exist even though it could not be seen. Object permanece is memory of behaivor and/or things seen but out of sight.

Touching Baby's Environment

Touching Baby's Environment
Baby learns dimension, testure, line and even color through touching his/her environment. Simply feeling things with his/her hands can give him/her much information. Hands are for touching and exploring. In a recent class we touched the drum in a variety of ways such as rubbing, tapping, patting and scratching. Each different touch produced a different drum sound. Touching the same texture in many different ways gives Baby a broader sensory experience.
