Singing Voice:
One of the most pleasing sounds to Baby's ear is the nurturing quality of the parent or caregiver's singing voice. The interaction between Singer and Baby listener can be enhanced through movement and gestures.

Stimulus/Response:
Baby's environment contains many levels and kinds of stimulation. Individual characteritics of Baby will affect his response to any given stimulus at any given time. By observing Baby for cues, the Adult can respond sensitively and provide the right level of stimulation for Baby.

Steady Beat:
It is frequently difficult for some people to continue clapping a steady beat when no vocal sound occurs--such as during a rest. Feeling the silent beat requires practise.

Stop and Smell the Flowers!
The sense of smell is strongly linked to memory and plays an important role in Baby's early learning. Everything in Baby's world is new and needs to be explored and understood using all the senses. As Baby starts to remember how something feels, smells, tastes, looks or sounds, s/he begins to better understand the physical properties of theings around him/her. This is sensory learning.

Give Baby the opportunity to explore different types of smells. While taking a walk outside, enjoy a variety of smells from grass, leaves, and flowers to dirt and tree bark. The kitchen is full of wonderful smells. In the kitchen, encourage Baby to smell the aroma of cooking foods and spices.

Anticipation:
Established patterns and routines are important to Baby. Anticipation occurs when Baby asslociates certain events to other preceding events. Certain visual and aural cues can alert Baby to a familiar pattern. This is why Ring-Around-the-Rosey and other such activities are so much fun.

What you'll experience in Village class:
a. Variety of music. Musical diversity builds strong neural networks in a baby's forming mind, which is why each Kindermusik semester contains an array of styles, sounds, and genres.
b. Instrument play. Age-appropriate experiences with child-safe instruments enhances a sense of rhythm and steady beat, develops a keen awareness of the distinguishing qualities of sound, and encourages spontaneity and creativity.
c. Dance. A classroom full of baby and adult pairs dancing together helps a little body develop the muscle strength needed to crawl and walk and helps a little heart to fall in love with the sheer joy of responding to music.
d. Together time. A Kindermusik class is truly the essence of "quality time," offering you a place to create special memories with your child, gain new insights into your child's development, and nurture your child's natural love of music.
e. Expert advice. A Kindermusik educator explains "what-to-watch-for" every step of the way and how each activity enhances your child's complete development
f. Learning continues at home. With the home materials, the learning continues at home with your child's best teacher-you!

Reading:
The most important thing you can do to make your child a reader is to read aloud stories and poems

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Tempo:
One of the fundamental aspects of music is tempo. You may have noticed that Baby enjoys fast and slow music equally, or that he or she prefers one extreme over the other. It is important for his or her understanding of music and language that Baby hear and feel a range of tempi.

Choose a favorite song and sing it slowly (adagio) with Baby, using big movements. Sing the same song again, quickly (allegro) with smaller movements. Alternate between the two extremes. Then gradually go from adagio, to andante, to allegro (slow, walking pace, quick).

Security:
Babies who have warm, responsive care are more resilient later in life. By following your instincts to cuddle Baby in activities such as lullabys, you are providing the security and safety necwessary for Baby's healthy development.

Sensory Receptors:
Babies love to put things in their mouth--but not to eat them. Around baby's mouth, lips, and tongue are sensory nerve receptors. Baby is exploring and discovering the object.
